The legendary warrior that is Paul O’Connell may have played his last match in green jersey, but for the inspiration he’s offering, he might as we still be playing.

The 6ft 6″ friendly 36-yr-old pulled a hamstring in the match against France last Sunday.

He underwent surgery in London on Thursday for the injury. The surgery is said to have been a success, and as a result, O’Connell decided to fly over to Cardiff to help inspire the young Irish side left to take on Argentina.

In crutches, O’Connell is said to be giving one of his usual pre-match speeches in the dressing room, as well as during half time and from the sideline.

As a result, the Irish team have said that they’ll “do it for Paul” and beat the Argentineans in his honour.

Ireland’s Rugby World Cup Quarter Final starts on TV3 at 1pm
