People across the country are being urged to be on alert as a new phishing scam has been reported in recent weeks.
The warning comes after a number of people have reported that they have received an email which claims to be from Irish Water.
However the email is nothing more than a scam that cons people into thinking they are responding to Irish Water but they are instead responding to a group of hackers.
In the realistic looking email people are being asked to provide their bank details to the company so that they can receive their refund.
Irish Water say those who are expecting a refund should be extra vigilant as the scam has become more popular in recent weeks.
The company also say the email should be immediately deleted by customers and that Irish Water would never ask for bank details via an email.
