Irish Water farce continues: Fianna Fail may withdraw from Government if water charges are not completely scrapped

It is Fianna Fail’s turn to throw a tantrum and play Opposition for a while, saying that they may withdraw from Government over the issue.

Earlier today, Fianna Fail’s Barry Cowen levied some comments at Simon Coveney, after the latter expressed his intentions to refuse legislation suggested by the Oireachtas committee on water charges.

The suggestions indicate that water should be funded through legal taxation, and that current charges should be scrapped for good.

But Simon Coveney dug his heels and said that he would not introduce legislation that would contravene his EU paymasters’ choices, stating that scrapping water charges would be ‘illegal’ and that it would leave Ireland open to hefty fines.

In reality, Fianna Fail are simply pretending to side with the people on this issue, while still supporting the Government on everything else. Business as usual inside Dáil Inc.
