Irish Water send letter of “gratitude” to couple for signing up -but they have been dead five years

65-year-old Gerry Murray has expressed his disbelief after receiving a letter from Irish Water, addressed to his parents, thanking them for signing up to the utility.

The problem is that Gerry’s parents have been dead for the last five years, and Mr. Murray himself has not signed up to Irish Water.

The letter was sent to the house owned by Gerry’s parents in Newbridge, but he is wondering how Irish Water could send correspondence there when nobody from the household actually signed up to it.

A spokesperson for Irish Water has said that the company “apologised for any inconvenience caused”, adding that anyone who has been sent wrong information should contact them immediately.
