The image shared by Drumahoe Vets In Derry comes as part of a warning to owners as thousands of animals are treated each year for reactions to theobromine – a naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean.
Speaking about the problem a leading veterinarian said even though people think are being kind giving their beloved pet a chocolate treat, they are causing more harm than good as the key ingredient in chocolate is highly dangerous to animals as it can affect the central nervous system and heart and can kill a dog.
The veterinarian also urged people not to give their pets large amounts of chocolate as it can be extremely fatal and cause a great deal of distress to your pet in the long run.
