Justice Minister: Ireland currently has no intelligence to suggest that the country is a target for a terrorist attack

The Minister Justice Frances Fitzgerald has said that Ireland currently has no intelligence to suggest that the country is a target for a terrorist attack at this present time.

The Justice Minister’s comments come in the wake of the recent Paris bombings and shooting incidents, Ms Fitzgerald also said that “terrorism has no boundaries” from the horrific attacks that took place on Friday night.
Meanwhile the Foreign Affairs Minister, Charlie Flanagan, has stated that a “small number” of people within Ireland are currently being monitored for potential links to extremist and terrorist activity.

However the An Garda Síochána have said the Irish public should not be alarmed as the threat level in this jurisdiction remains unchanged, saying it is highly unlikely that an attack will occur. The Gardaí also say the current threat assessment will be regularly monitored and all appropriate measures will be taken if any threat should arise.
