The Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan has said those who choose to reject the salary offered to them as President are demeaning the office.
Mr Flanagan who was speaking at the opening of the Kevin Street Garda Station, said choosing to take such a stance would demean the office and the presidency.
The Justice Minister who has pledged his support to Michael D Higgin’s bid for a second term was responding to previous statements from ex-Dragons Den star and businessman Sean Casey, who said he would give away his entire salary if he was nominated.
Although Mr Flanagan strongly disagreed with Mr Casey’s comments he did pledge his full support to Mr Higgins, saying President has proven himself to be an excellent leader.
