Kenny: “Abolishing USC could bring some 70,000 emigrants home”

The Taoiseach and Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has claimed that he and Government will abolish the Universal Social Charge in an effort to make Ireland’s personal taxation system competitive with fellow EU countries.

Mr Kenny recently Today FM that if the system is scrapped it could provide an opportunity for some of those 70,000 people who emigrated to come home and work. Although the Taoiseach did insist that the country’s personal taxation system needs to be readjusted to comply with other countries in order for this to happen.

Meanwhile the Taoiseach also said that he fully intends to be partners once again with the Labour Party in the next government. Mr Kenny said he does not see any circumstances in which Fianna Fáil should be in government.
