Kenny rules out stepping down and reveals intentions to run for a third term

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has once again ruled out the possibility of stepping down in the near future by revealing his intentions to run for another term in office.

The Fine Gael whose political future has been under scrutiny in recent months revealed to reporters that he has no intention of stepping down until he completes his and the current Government’s objectives.

Although he doesn’t expect another General Election until 2019, Mr Kenny said he is considering extending his political career beyond that date and hopes to run again.

The Taoiseach told reporters: “I’m not even contemplating an election, there won’t be one for three years. I’m genuinely focused on the challenge up ahead. I’ve answered these questions before.”

“We have a really challenging period up ahead and I intend on working with my colleagues in Government and all the parties in the Oireachtas in the context of Brexit, best outcome for Ireland, relations with the Northern Ireland peace process, UK and so on.”
