A spokesperson for Kerry County Council has said that numerous of homes across the county are at a risk today because of wild fires.

The news comes after the Air Corps had to be called for assistance after a blaze broke out in Killarney National Park. It is understood that the fire is one of the biggest fires ever to take hold inside the National Park. The fire is that large there are 10 of Kerry’s fire brigade units spread across the park in areas such as Sneem, Kells, Portmagee, Dingle, Inch, and in the Derrycunnihy area of Killarney National Park.

A spokesperson for Kerry County Council,  has said that family homes are at a major risk today in a number of these areas. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the Old Kenmare Road between Kenmare and Killarney, which is part of the ‘Kerry Way’ walking route.

Kerry County Council also say that the current resources of Kerry Fire and Rescue Service are working at maximum capacity today to tackle the wild fires.

Meanwhile a spokesman for the Kerry fire and rescue service is appealing to land and commonage rights owners never to engage in burning without first notifying the regional control centre. Human lives the service says are being put at un-intended risk
