Today’s press briefing has revealed that 29 people have died from the latest flu epidemic. The majority of the deaths were elderly people over age 65.
A further 835 people have been hospitalised nationwide with the flu.
Hospitals around the country are struggling to cope with the overcrowding conditions due to the outbreak.
The HSE launched a website www.undertheweather.ie to provide tips and advice for anyone suffering from the flu and other common ailments.
Anyone in the high-risk group is asked to contact their GP if influenza symptoms develop.
