L-Drivers getting hammered this year with two cars already ‘lifted’ by gardai this past week

It seems like learner drivers are getting absolutely hammered of late and it looks like Minister for Transport Shane Ross really is trying to hammer his foot down on L-Drivers this year.

Tough new laws targeting learner drivers have seemingly taken effect over the last few days as Gardai seized two vehicles following separate routine stops.

In posts to social media, Gardai confirmed that two motorists. who were caught speeding on counties Kildare and Laois, had their vehicles seized this past week.

It’sunderstood that one motorist who was caught by the Naas Policing Unit 115km in 50km had their vehicle seized.

Meanwhile another motorist who was caught doing 172km on the motorway just south of Portlaoise, also had their vehicle seized.

The seizures come as tough new penalties were introduced last month for learner drivers who are driving unaccompanied.

Under the Clancy Amendment, those who let learners drive unaccompanied will have their vehicle seized.
