Fifty-eight people have now been confirmed dead, and at least 500 more have been injured, after a lone gunman opened fire on a crowd gathered to enjoy a country music festival.

The suspect, identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, fired hundreds of rounds from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Park hotel in Las Vegas. It is understood that he killed himself before police stormed the room he was in.

Mr. Paddock was not known to the police. The motive for the massacre remains unclear at this point.
