We may have enjoyed a beautiful Autumn where everyone was commenting on how warm it was, but it appears Winter is finally here.

Temperatures are set to plunge tonight with the first blast of snow forecast for the west and northwest of the country thanks to a blast of Arctic air.

Freezing gales and blasts of wintry downfalls are forecast from the small hours tonight right through until Sunday.

Met Eireann say:
“There will be some sunny spells but it will be mostly cloudy with heavy rain, hail or sleet showers.

“It’ll be rather cold, with highest temperatures of only 4C to 8C in fresh to strong west to north west winds.”

On Friday, there will be some “heavy wintry showers” over parts of the north and north west.

Temperatures will again reach between 4C and 7C during the day, but will fall to a chilly -1C overnight.
