St Patrick’s Day maybe a national holiday here in Ireland, but it soon could become a national holiday on the other side of the Irish Sea if Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn has his way if he wins the British general election.
Although the patron saint of Ireland is well known and celebrated all over the world it fairly rarely doubles up as a national bank holiday outside of the Emerald Isle, but now it seems the UK could be joining us by taking a day off to celebrate Ireland’s great saint.
The rather unexpected move comes as the Labour party leader said he vows to unite the four great nations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) of the UK together by celebrating each others culture and heritage.
Speaking on his campaign your Mr Corbyn said: “The four nations that make up our great country have rarely been more divided due to the damaging and divisive policies of this Conservative Government. We will ask for the support of the governments of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland so that the same four holidays can be enjoyed across the United Kingdom.”
“These holidays will be a chance for workers to spend time with their families, in their communities and with their friends.”
