The long awaited roadside drug testing operation will officially begin from tomorrow onwards.
The new system that will allow Gardai to test motorists for cannabis, cocaine, opiates and benzos, will officially come into effect from midnight after the proposal was agreed before Christmas.
Both the Gardai and the Department of Transport have welcomed the move saying they hope the new testing system will hopefully prevent further fatalities on Irish roads.
Under the new system those found to be over the limit for alcohol or found to have drugs in their system, will automatically lose their licence.
