Longford carjacking leaves woman in hospital

Following an alleged assault and carjacking incident in Longford, a man and a woman are recovering and a second man is in custody.

The incident took place yesterday at 5.55pm when a woman in her 40’s was confronted by two males at knifepoint as she returned to her car at a car park on Ballymahon St., Longford.

The woman was forced into her car by the men and driven from the scene. The car was followed by Gardai and struck a ditch a short time later.

A male in his 20s was taken from the scene by ambulance to Tullamore Hospital. A second male fled from the scene on foot while the woman was taken to Mullingar Hospital where she is recieving treatment for her injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

A male in his 20’s was arrested close by during a follow-up operation involving local Gardaí assisted by the Regional Support Unit. He is currently being detained at Longford Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
