If you are looking to fly to far away lands this year, you may be able to do it for cheaper than you think.
Norwegian has confirmed that it will fly from Edinburgh to New York for $69 each way, about half the price of the current fare.
The airline will also commence operations from Cork Airport during summer 2017, initially flying to Boston. Fares are expected to be similarly low.
Beware though, that there will be extra costs to be taken into account. Luggage and seat selection, for instance, will add a substantial amount to the base fare.
