The funeral service of Louth murder-suicide couple Marie and Jim Quigley has taken place this afternoon.

The service took place at St. Joseph’s Redemptorist church in Dundalk earlier and the couple where laid to rest at a nearby cemetery, the service was attended by the couple’s four children along with close family and friends. The couple were the subject of wide spread media coverage earlier this week after the body of Mrs Quigley aged 68 was discovered by Gardaí at the their home, after they came to inform the family that Mr Quigley(69) had died in a collision on the M1. Gardaí believe that Marie’s husband Jim murdered Mrs Quigley after an altercation broke out between the couple, he then proceeded to kill himself by driving down the wrong way of the M1 motorway just a few hours later.

The couple’s son-in-law Jeff paid tribute to the family during the service, he said: “Jim’s illness, which he battled for a number of years, deteriorated from a physical illness to a mental illness,” “Having, as a family, got through everything together, this was one battle we just couldn’t win … [but] we will see you again.” Meanwhile Father Tom Hogan, gave praise to the couple’s immediate family saying: “I never came across, in all my priesthood, an expression of unconditional love of God that I found in this family.”
