Former Minister of State and Fine Gael TD Lucinda Creighton will today set out her proposed vision for the new party and outline its ethos and political intentions and principles.
After today’s announcement, the full and official launch of the new party will likely take place next month.
Ms. Creighton was one of seven Fine Gael TDs and Senators who voted against the Government on the controversial abortion legislation in 2013.
The Reform Alliance party was formed afterwards, comprising five rebel Fine Gael TDs; Creighton herself, Wicklow TD Billy Timmins, Peter Mathews, Terence Flanagan, Denis Naughten and senators Paul Bradford and Fidelma Healy Eames.
The new party will broaden Ireland’s political landscape, and hopefully bring in some fresh air into a largely stagnated pond of dual party politics.
