There was some good news for two Co Cavan brothers this week as one brother won €50,000 on a national lottery scratchcard he bought with the money his brother owed him.

The brothers named Declan and Damien McManus came into the windfall this week after Declan gave his brother Damien €2 that he owed him, Damien subsequently decided to spend the small amount paid back to him on a Lotto scratch card, which won him €5. However Damien’s luck didn’t stop there as he quickly cashed in his €5 wining ticket and choose to re-invest the money by buying an All Cash Platinum Scratch Card, which subsequently won him the whopping €50,000 top prize.

After winning the substantial amount Damien couldn’t hide his delight any longer and started yelling about his win in the Mace shop on the Dublin Road in Killeshandra, Co Cavan where ironically they both work, Damien’s yelling was so loud his brother Declan actually thought the shop was being robbed.

Damien spoke of his delight this afternoon when he received his winnings, he told reporters: “Declan owed me €2 so I got it off him and bought a National Lottery Scratch Card. I won a fiver on that Scratch card, so I thought I’d buy another. “I bought the All Cash Platinum Scratch Card and scratched it right away, there in the shop, I couldn’t believe it when I saw I’d won the top prize of €50,000”

Meanwhile Damien’s brother Declan also spoke of his delight about his brothers winnings, Declan told reporters: “I was in the office and heard Damien shouting ‘Come here! Come here!’ I thought the shop was being robbed!”

Damien also spoke of his plans for his winnings. saying: “I’ve never been out of the country before, so I’m going to go on my first foreign holiday. I’m also going to buy a new car. “And I’d love to go to Old Trafford when the new season starts to see Man U play.”

He jokingly added: “I guess I’ll have to look after Declan as well he’ll get his €2 back at least!!”
