A major investigation is underway in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania today after a gunman went on the loose in a synagogue yesterday afternoon.

At least 11 people were shot dead with 6 others seriously injured in the mayhem.

One witness said “I don’t mean this in a bad way but Jews tend to be late to services and luckily many were otherwise a lot more would have been shot”.

The news of the tragic deaths come after a man who has since been arrested, opened fire at the Tree of Life synagogue in Squirrel Hill.

According to reports in the US, the gunman opened fire during a baby naming ceremony at the synagogue. Police say no children were killed in the incident, but have confirmed that at least 11 people have been killed.

It is understood the man entered the building and shouted ‘kill all Jews’ before he opened fire.

Authorities say the gunman was arrested at the scene and are treating the case as a hate crime.
