A man accused of raping a two-week-old baby has been transferred to a secure unit at an Northern Irish hospital after he was attacked by a fellow inmate.

According to The Irish Sun newspaper, the 25-year-old man who has been remanded in custody following the alleged rape earlier this month was attacked by a fellow inmate despite being held in a secure unit.

The Irish Sun say the attack occurred despite the prisoner being placed at unit which is designated for special person at risk prisoners, at HMP Maghaberry Prison.

It is believed that the 25-year-old who was remanded in custody for the alleged rape of a 12-day-old baby, was attacked by a fellow prisoner who has since had his privileges removed by priosn officers.

The paper states that the accused recieved a bad beating by one of his fellow inmates which resulted him being transferred to a secure unit at the prison hospital.

The attack comes after the man was arrested in connection with the rape of the baby at a house in Annalong, in Co Down.
