A man in his twenties has appeared before Killorglin District Court charged in relation to a sexual assault on a 73-year-old woman.
Anthony Hussey (22) with an address at Ardshillane, Sneem has been charged with entering a premises in Co Kerry as a trespasser with intent to commit a sexual assault. The court heard of how the incident occurred between the hours of 6am and 8am on the morning of September 20th this year. It is believed that the 73-year-old woman was viciously attacked in her bedroom by a masked male wearing a balaclava, who then proceeded to strike her with his fist and subjected her to a horrific and prolonged sexual assault.
The sitting Judge James O Connor ordered that the location of the assault not be published, so as to protect the victims identity. The judge aso denied a request from Mr Hussy’s solicitor that he be granted bail as he had no previous convictions. Judge O Connor said that he had a duty of care to the victim as well as to the public at large and he remanded Mr Hussey in custody to appear again before Killorglin District Court this Thursday.
