Police in Beirut have confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the killing of a British Embassy worker over the weekend.
It is understood the arrest comes after the man confessed to the killing of Rebecca Dykes whose body was discovered on the side of a motorway on Saturday.
Ms Dykes who was reportedly due to fly home to the UK for Christmas this week, was brutally killed after she was strangled with a rope before her body was dumped at the side of a motorway in the east of the Lebanese capital.
Although police are still trying to determine whether or not Ms Dykes was sexually assaulted, they have confirmed the man has been taken into custody after he confessed to killing her.
Police say the investigation is being treated as an criminal act and there is no suggestion that Ms Dykes murder was politically motivated.
Meanwhile the British Department of Foreign Affairs has said they are currently in liason with authorities in Beirut.
