A man in his 30s was rushed to hospital this afternoon, after getting into difficulties while swimming in the Shannon River in Limerick.
Friends raised the alarm when they lost sight of him.
Emergency services were quickly at the scene, and located the man.
He was transferred to University Hospital Limerick in a critical condition.
