Man in stable condition in University Hospital Limerick after leaving taxi to enter the Shannon River from a bridge

A man is currently recovering in hospital in Limerick this morning after he was rescued from the River Shannon last night.

According to eyewitnesses the man, aged in his 20s, got into a struggle after he entered the river from a bridge in city. It is believed the young man entered the river immediately after getting out of taxi on the Shannon Bridge.

However thankfully he was rescued from the water by members of Limerick City and County Fire Service who received the emergency call at approximately 10pm.

Emergency services say the man was thankfully heled by a male and a female passerby who quickly threw a life buoy which the man held onto.

The man was later transferred to University Hospital Limerick, where his condition is described as stable.
