Man sentenced to three years in prison, for pushing British tourist into the sea

A man has been sentenced to three years in prison after he pushed a British tourist into the sea at the Tall Ships Festival in 2011.

The 27 year old father-of-two, originally from Enaville Road, North Strand, Dublin 1, was convicted by a jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in January.

Judge Patricia Ryan had suspended the last year of a four year prison term which was backdated it to August 26, 2012, the date Reilly went into custody.

It is understood that the victim, Colin Ryder a British tourist, was filming the Tall Ships at the West Pier in Howth, with his camcorder at the time when the incident occurred.  It is  believed that Mr Reilly approached Mr Ryder and asked him to film him, Mr Reilly proceeded to lure Mr Ryder to the edge of the pier before he pushed him into the water.

It is then understood that Mr Ryder became submerged and sank under a boat, it is believed that were youths who were swimming in the area at time, came to the aid of Mr Ryder the youths in question threw a rope and pulled him to safety.

Mr Ryder had bruised his hand and suffered from shock after the ordeal. Mr Ryders camcorder and mobile phone were damaged in the incident, but he managed to take a photo of Reilly after the incident.
