52-year-old Dublin man Noel McDermott was left standing inside the A&E department at the Mater Hospital for 12 hours straight, as the place was severely overcrowded. He told his sister that he ‘could not take it much longer.’
Less than 24 hours later, Mr. McDermott suffered a massive heart attack and is now in a critical condition, suffering extensive brain damage.
Mr. McDermott has a range of health issues, which were exacerbated by the lack of proper care received.
His family have hit out at the miserable conditions experienced at A&E and across the health system in Ireland as a whole.
