Manhunt underway after convicted child killer escapes from custody

Police in Northern Ireland have launched a manhunt after a convicted child murderer has escaped from custody.

The man at the centre of the hunt John Clifford, escaped from Maghaberry Prison on Sunday after he failed to return whilst attending an appointment on temporary release.

Clifford, 56, is described as being 5’8″ in height, of medium build, with green eyes and has fair hair.

When he was last seen Clifford was wearing a black beanie style hat, a black overcoat, grey trousers and black shoes.

Police also say he was last seen driving a three-wheel mobility scooter with the registration EXZ4974.

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact police on 101.

Clifford was jailed for the killing of his niece Sue-Ellen back in 1989. He is also known to have committed a number of other crimes against children in the past.
