Stalwart peace activist Margaretta D’Arcy released from prison

The steadfast freedom fighter (80), imprisoned for the second time in as many years, was scheduled to be released from Limerick prison this Friday morning at 10 a.m. Margaretta was jailed for nine weeks in 2013 after being convicted of unlawful entry into Shannon airport, and had a second prison term imposed on her this month for refusing to sign a bond stipulating that she would abide by the law and refrain from entering off-limit areas of the airport.

Once again, it is the citizen who suffers the full weight of the law, while the true culprits walk away unscathed. Margaretta opposed the utilization of Shannon airport as stopover by US military and so-called rendition flights on their way elsewhere.

Margaretta is now a free woman again.
