The leader of the Fianna Fail party Micheál Martin has told reporters that he is hopeful that negotiations on the formation of a minority government will come to a happy conclusion this week.

Mr Martin’s comments come as further talks between his party and Fine Gael are due to resume later this morning. Following his brief meeting with Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny on Saturday, Mr Martin said that he is fully prepared to engage in further talks with Mr Kenny this week.

Mr Martin has told reporters he hopes the ongoing talks can reach agreement: “I think the situation has to be resolved fairly soon.” “I think there will be further engagement and we’ll see what comes from that. “The positions are very clear, We would hope we can bring about a resolution early next week.”
