Martin McGuinness steps down as Sinn Fein leader in Northern Ireland

Martin McGuinness has confirmed he will not be seeking re-election to the Stormont Assembly.

Mr. McGuinness resigned as deputy first minister in recent days, due to ongoing health concerns.

According to him, he’s ‘physically unable to continue’, and has no choice but to cede the way to a new generation of republicans.

Party colleagues and other politicians have been paying tribute to Mr. McGuinness as he stepped down from his post.
