Mary Lou McDonald has today used Dáil privilege to name a number of politicians she says have been named in a dossier of alleged tax evasion.
The list includes several prominent former TDs, and a number of ministerial figures.
The Sinn Fein TD did emphasize that they are “allegations.”
Enda Kenny retorted that these allegations, which were first raised in a dossier given to TDs by a civil servant whistleblower, have been handed over to the Gardaí.
“The whistleblower alleges Des O’Malley, Ray McSharry, Gerard Collins, Máire-Geoghan Quinn, an ‘S Barrett’, Richie Ryan (a former Minister for Finance), and others” may have been involved in tax evasion schemes.
Several of the people named in such list later made statements to distance themselves from the claims.
Des O’Malley made a statement soon after these matters were raised in the Dáil.
“This list, and allegations of tax evasion have been extensively investigated already by the Revenue Commissioners, the Gardaí and the Moriarty Tribunal several years ago. Despite this it is being raised again.”
