Despite torrential rain, the people of this country gathered and spoke loud and clear. The message to the Government?

We will not pay

The country was brought to a standstill yesterday, with masses of protesters marching down the main thoroughfares in towns and cities everywhere.

And yet, despite this unequivocal display of defiance, Minister for Finance Michael Noonan found the courage to very disingenuously proclaim that yesterday’s marches were a mere ‘last rally’, and that the anti-water charge movement was ‘wrong.’ These comments were deemed by Richard Boyd Barrett from People Before Profit as ‘utterly delusional.’

Early in the day, it became clear that the general turnout would far exceed the most optimistic expectations. People joined forces up and down the country in spite of the inclement weather conditions to prove the Government that enough is enough, that we have had enough of austerity and new charges and taxes.

A new massive protest march is now planned for December 10 (International Human Rights Day) in Dublin and elsewhere. On that day, people will march to Leinster House.
