The Claremorris man purchased the lucky ticket at the Centra shop in Balla, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, and thinking nothing of it, he left it in his unlocked car overnight.
Yesterday, he heard that the winning ticket for the Daily Million Draw for Monday had been sold in Balla, so he went back to his car to retrieve the ticket, and realized he had won.
The farmer, who wishes to remain anonymous, collected his prize at Lotto Headquarters in Dublin this morning.
