Mcgregor likely to be stripped of his lightweight title as UFC confirm Ferguson vs Nurmagomedov fight

Conor Mcgregor’s future in the UFC is looking more uncertain after it was confirmed that the lightweight title currently held by ‘The Notorious’ will be for grabs this April.

In announcement made on Wednesday the UFC’s president Dana White confirmed that Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov will face off at UFC 223 on April 7th.

Although Mcgregor is yet to comment on his future it is thought the UFC chief has become inpatient with the Irishman who is yet to defend the title has held for over a year.

Speaking to FOX Sports White said the following: “Conor has said that he’s thinking about coming back in September. If he comes back in September that’s almost two years – that can’t happen. It’s not fair to everybody else.”

“I love Conor, respect Conor, love everything he’s done for the company, everybody knows that, I say it all the time (but) the belt would have to move on.”
