Medicinal cannabis products will be made available patients in the Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK from today onwards.
The new treatment option which has been heavily backed by a public campaign will come into effect after the British Government past new laws last month.
However the treatment will only be made available to patients who are of unmet clinical need.
Those seeking the treatment will have to see specialist doctors in order to avail of treatment options such as medicinal cannabis oil and other cannabis based medical products.
The move to legalise cannabis-based treatment options was made after a number of high profile cases led to a campaign and review of the treatment option.
It is hoped that such treatments options will be made available here in Ireland following the UK’s decision.
However the Irish Government have yet to discuss the possibility of introducing such a treatment option.
