Messenger Kids: Facebook launches new app that is made exclusively for children under the age of 13

The world’s biggest social media website Facebook has confirmed this week that they are currently in the process of developing a new app that is exclusively made for children.

Facebook say the new app entitled ‘messenger kids’ will be solely created for children to use without the need for them to sign up to Facebook itself.

The app which will allow children to message and share videos with friends has apparently been approved by the regulatory bodies in the US and it will only be available in the US as Facebook say the app is still being developed.

Although the app has already drawn some criticism, Facebook say it will be completely safe as children will only be allowed to use the app once their parents sign up and agree to the terms and conditions.

The social media giant also say the app is being developed in order for parents to monitor their kids online activity more closely as more and more children have been found to be using the official Facebook website in recent years.

However the app has already drawn criticism from a large number of concerned parents with many believing the app could become exploited by sick paedophiles who will deliberately create accounts to target vunerable children.
