Met Eireann heatwave warning: National drought may worsen as wild fires spread and hosepipe ban continues




Drought conditions will be experienced across the whole of the country Met Eireann has warned as a hosepipe ban goes nationwide.

Temperatures are expected to soar to the high twenties against this weekend and Met.ie has re issued its ‘Status Yellow’ weather advisory, warning on its website that the warm weather and lack of rainfall will last well into next week “exacerbating drought conditions”.

Meanwhile RTE has reported that the Air Corps has been brought in help battle the large Gorse fire in the Slieve Bloom Mountains as helicopters drop hundreds of thousands of litres of water, gathered from nearby lakes, on the spreading fires from the air.

Meanwhile multiple fire crews continue to the fire on the ground and another number of similar fires are being tackled across the country.
