The national forecaster has issued up to three weather warnings ahead of the arrival of Storm Caroline today.
The weather system will bring freezing temperatures and severe snowfalls across many areas of the country.
There will be heavy downpours today, Thursday, turning to snow as the afternoon progresses. Thursday night will be bitterly cold, as the thermometer drops to -2C, with widespread frost formation expected.
A wind warning for Mayo, Donegal, Galway, and Kerry has also been issued, as wind speeds of up to 110km/h are expected there.
