The forecaster has issued a yellow weather warning, as winds of up to 110km/h are expected today, and also freezing temperatures overnight.

Snow and sleet are expected to fall in parts of the country today and tonight, with a rather bleak and dreary day ahead.

Daytime temperatures should hover around 10-11C, but they will drop rapidly after nightfall, with lows of 0-3C forecast.

The rain and sleet are expected to clear tomorrow morning, giving way to a bright and sunny, if rather cold, Wednesday.
