Michael D Higgins faces competition but wants 7 more years in the Aras

President Michael D Higgins reportedly said that he only wanted to be a President for one term, but he has since changed his tune.

Higgins has come under fire on social media for declaring that he wants another 7 years in the Aras.

The Presidential Election in late Autumn will now see opposition from Higgins, a Sinn Fein candidate and, if the rumours are to believed, Sean Gallagher will also take to the field.

Gallagher was leading Higgins in the polls in the 2011 election but was pipped at the post when a controversial tweet was read out during a debate on RTE.
