Michael D. Higgins may think he’s going to walk back into a second term but he may think again.
Sinn Fein have declared that they will enter a horse in the Presidential race in October.
Speculation is rife as to who they have in mind, possibly Gerry Adams or possibly a female candidate.
Either way, a number of independent candidates are also looking to get on the ballet paper by seeking backing from councils around the country.
One thing is for sure, Higgins has a fight on his hands.
