Micheal Martin 2019’s Budget must prioritise the homeless crisis by offering more affordable and social housing

The Fianna Fáil leader Micheal Martin has said the next budget must be more focused on solving current homeless crisis.

Mr Martin who was speaking on RTE’s Radio One programme Today With Sean O’Rourke, said the state must get actively involved in addressing the current crisis.

The Fianna Fail leader who said he has no issue with calling the crisis as a national emergency, also said the Government must prioritise the issue by building more affordable and social housing in 2019.

The leader of the main opposition party in Dáil also said the process of building those affordable housing projects must be moved along quickly as there is currently too much red tape halting the construction of much needed housing.

Mr Martin also stated that his party want to see the state ramp up their efforts when it comes to dealing with the situation by reducing the current housing waiting lists.

Mr Martin added that the state must now get involved instead of waiting on the market to change in order to rectify the situation.
