Michelle O’Neill reveals her intentions to run for Sinn Féin’s deputy leadership position




Sinn Féin’s Michelle O’Neill has revealed her intentions to run for the deputy leader’s position.

Ms O’Neill who hopes to succeed the next party leader elect Mary Lou McDonald as deputy, revealed over the weekend that she would honoured to work with Ms Mcdonald.

In video message posted to the parties twitter page Ms O’Neill said the following: “Mary Lou McDonald is our new president-elect.”

“She is going to be a formidable political leader. I want to join her in her leadership.”

“I am going forward for the position of vice president of our party. I am going to ask the membership across the island for their support in order to do so.”

Ms O’Neill’s announcement comes as the nomination process for the position will end on the 29th of January.

Sinn Féin say they hope to have a new deputy leader named on February 10th.
