Minister for Transport Shane Ross: “Yes, I have driven over the legal alcohol limit in the past”

One of the most ardent supporters of absolutely no drink and driving is the Minister for Transport Shane Ross.

However, whether it was a freudian slip or not, on PrimeTime this week, Ross admitted that in the past he himself has driven over the legal alcohol limit.

The show saw arguements for a ban from Ross while a strong argument from Kerry TD Danny Healy Rae as to why people in rural communities should be allowed take one or two drinks, preferably stout and drive 20/30kph home maybe for  a two or three mile stretch. He said that Ross wasn’t familiar with the rural setup on a pub environment.

During the programme, Ross admitted that he himself hasn’t driven for quite a number of years but that in the past he did drive of the legal alcohol limit but that it was a different time.

The fundamental arguments are should people not be allowed drink at all and drive or should they be allowed one or two half glasses and drive. So what’s your thoughts? Should people be allowed one or two drinks and drive?
