There have been mixed reactions to the rumours that President Michael D. Higgins wants another 7 years in office.
Some are happy, most are not.
According to The Irish Times newspaper, Higgins who will end his seven year term in office later this year, will once again throw his hat into the mix in the hope to retain his position and spend another seven years in the Aras.
It’s understood that Higgins will announce his formal bid sometime in July.
It is expected that President Higgins will face competition for the position as Independent senator Gerard Craughwell previously revealed his intentions to run, whilst former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and former Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly have yet to formally declare their intentions.
