It seems like that the country’s politicians are still set to receive a hefty pay rise after Sinn Féin’s motion to stop the pay increase was overwhelmingly defeated in the Dáíl this evening.
The pay increase which will see TDs recieve €5,000 will remain in place after Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil agreed to pass a counter-motion instead, defeating Sinn Fein’s motion 89 votes to 38.
The move now means there is no stopping the pay increase which is expected to come into effect next January.
