Motorists are being advised to take extra care on the roads this morning after high winds battered some parts of the country overnight.

The warning comes after Met Éireann issued two wind warnings for 13 counties on Wednesday.

Although the windy conditions are expected to pass later this morning, motorists are being advised to take extra care as fallen debris may be lying on some roads and there is a possibility of some localised flooding in some areas.

Met Éireann say a Status Orange alert has been issued for counties Donegal, Galway, Mayo, and Sligo is now in place, and will remain in effect until 10am tomorrow.

Elsewhere, a Status Yellow wind warning has been issued for Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Clare, and Kerry.
